[History]:
Wiki

It's a bit hard to describe all of Violinist of Hameln, and it's 37 volumes. So I'm only going to focus on Lutes history and the History of Sforzando. I'll also note that Lute, though he has three or so volumes dedicated to him, is a secondary character that does not interact with the main cast in present more than once. His story for the most part takes place fifteen years before the start of the manga. He more or less only has the time span of a fight and a couple minutes after to relate with them before permanently dying.

Sforzando is and was a country that was built up on magic, it had the best mages of the world, and due to this was the most protected. They were one of the few countries capable of fending off the Mazoku and keeping their borders safe for mankind. Back when the Mazoku were first released Lute was one of the main reasons this was possible.

The Sforzando Royal Family are the most powerful individuals when magic is concerned. The Queen, Queen Horn is near immortal with the ability to heal, the King was an incredibly powerful mage, the most powerful in the country until Lute was born at least. Lute is the first and only prince of Sforzando, first and elder child to Queen Horn and her Husband (who has no name, and it's actually a gag in the manga no one can remember it.) He was considered the most powerful human in the world, and was not simply the prince but also the captain of the royal magic guard as well as the high priest of Sforzando. (They practice some kind of Crystal Jesus type religion.)

When Flute, Lutes little sister turned one, Sforzando was attacked by a Mazoku army headed by one of the four great captains Bass. Bass wrecked the city, and despite Lute, and the entire army's best efforts nearly wins. At a turning point Lute had a chance to kill him, but Bass mangaged to kidnap baby Flute and use her against him. Due to this he is stabbed several times, drained of blood which the Mazoku use to give themselves a magic boost and has his soul ripped out of him. Yet still, despite this he manages to save Flute in his last moments.

Still, despite Lutes final condition, Bass is left with only a head, however Bass does take Lutes body and uses it as a puppet, freely acting the role of a parasite and using Lutes great skills for his own gain. This continues for fifteen years.

There isn't much to say about Lute during these fifteen years. What can be said though is that he was aware of them, which should have been impossible with his soul separated from his body. He displays a few times the ability to take control of his body under extreme conditions, though only slightly. (He manages to use a spell to save a close friend Clari, a child he raised and taught before dying, as well as stop spells Bass uses and is seen crying tears of blood at Bass' atrocities.)

However near the end of the manga there is a great effort made to save Lute, which Clari, Lutes former student, and all the other children he taught and raised team up to fight Bass with the goal of freeing Lutes soul. Clari manages to succeed but it costs him both his arms and both his legs in the process. Bass has also captured a teenage Flute and strung her up, ready to use her body the same way he used Lutes. (As she is also very powerful and rich in magic. Lutes magic is running out due to how Bass is using him.) When Lute regains his soul he sets Bass' head on fire, and then with the little bit left of life energy he has he sacrifices himself body and all to healing Clari's limbs, as well as the wounds Flute has endured. He has enough time to say goodbye before fading away.

[Personality]:
Lute is very sweet and has been described as innocent and naive. He is very strong in his will and desperately protects the people he loves, mostly his sister and mother. He has a tendency to keep his personal issues to himself (such as when he is hurt, or worried about something) this is so no one will have to worry about him. When he is defending those he loves he can become something akin to a demon. His tactics are quick and calculating and delivered without hesitance. He will risk every part of himself in order to win and protect those around him, as their lives are always worth more than his own. At the same time he's a bit ditsy when it comes to using powerful magic during inappropriate times. He has accidentally harmed his advisers before due to this and his little sister. Usually this is only a problem when he becomes enthusiastic.

In general Lute is an optimistic, bright and generous person with a big heart who just wants everyone around him to be safe and happy.

When Lute was 15 and his sister just recently born the mazoku attacked his country of Sforzando. He went out to fight the armies as the high priest and commander of the magic battalion. During his fight he takes down one hell king, kills one of their high commanders and almost kills the leader of the entire army Bass. But sadly Lute fell into his trap which was to obtain Lutes body and magical power to replace his. They perform the Holy Grail on him, removing his soul and making the body a puppet for his use. Amazingly enough though, while in a soulless state Lute, with his arms crushed and his legs broken his eyes stabbed manages to save his sister Flute from being killed, sending her back to her mother.

Lute spends 15 years as Bass' body, unable to do anything against the demon kings will. Every so often he manages small things, for example restraining Drum in a battle with Clari, and occasionally cries when he is sad. During the final battle Flute and Clari go to confront Bass, Clari intends to rescue Lute and return his soul, but in the process is so badly hurt he's close to death. Bass had planned for this since he had nearly used up all the life energy Lute had left and wanted to switch over to Flute as his new body. Clari, his advanced guard Queen horn's spirit, and Flute together manage to recover Lutes soul and get it back into him. At this point Flute has had all her limbs broken and her vocal cords cut, and Clari has had an arm and a leg disintegrated. Lute having finally recovered himself, destroys the rest of Bass' solders and then Bass himself with his finishing move Megiddo Flame. Once Bass was finally finished he sacrificed the remainder of his life energy to heal Flute and restore Clari's limbs. This causes his body to disintegrate since it had spent so much time as a mazoku.

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:
There's a long list....

Lute is considered the strongest human mage the world has ever seen. There is little he can't do. In fact he is shown as being able to learn new kinds of magic, some lost for centuries rather effortlessly. There is only one thing he can't do, and that is healing magic. Healing magic is a skill that belongs only to the females of the Sforzando Royal Family.

The things he can do are some of the following, though not limited to these; fly, teleport, create bird shikigami, create barriers, create seals, expel great amounts of magical energy, transmutation and illusion magic, control at least the four elements (water, fire, earth, air), enhanced strength, enhanced speed, the ability to move his body even when his soul has been removed, sense evil, sense demons through complicated enchanted disguises, live through things that would kill anyone else (being stabbed through like 40 times, though this is common in this manga.), learn any magic given the chance (but healing), and is considered a genius, especially when it comes to magic.

Really if one can think of it and it is magical he can do it and is probably proficient at it. What he doesn't know he can learn and is described as closer to a demon than human in his magical ability.

[Limited Powers]:
He will not be able to teleport outside a local area, such as around a ship, or from a ship to a near island and so forth. Perhaps a hundred yards. He won't be able to do any sort of long distance travel, and instead of being a one man legion he can only take on a reasonable amount of people at once. (20 or so depending on their abilities and skills.) His earth shattering magic will be reduced to town size or so (though no blowing up towns) and his magic learning proficiency will be less instantaneous. (in the manga he casts a spell he has never seen before while reading it. Instead he will have to study more reasonably over the course of at least a week or so.) Anything outlandish will be used as gags more than anything, as the nature of the manga is more comedic.

[Other Important Facts]:
Due to Lute having been dead and turned to dust due to his canon point, I'm going to adjust a little and allow his body as it was before he was killed the first time to end up in the game.

[The voice sounds like it's from a teenage boy, an upbeat teenage boy, far too up beat for a teenage boy. In fact it was too upbeat for anyone just arriving, what was wrong with this kid?]

Hello! I'm not sure who all of you are, but again, hello! I hope I get to meet everyone and we can be friends!

This really is an amazing book, it must be a rather complicated spell, or set of spells putting it together. I really want to figure it out, maybe I can get another one to take apart.... But that can wait! I'm glad there's a really easy way to talk to everyone. Back home we had crystal balls, but those are a bit hard to carry around and use. Though they're really useful for seeing the future!

Oh yeah, I'm Lute! I just got here. But, it seems like there's quite a bit of people like me right now. Heh, so I'm sure it's not that interesting or unusual.... But still, it's only polite to introduce yourself when you come to a new place with new people. How else can you make friends after all?

Speaking of! So the handy book had a bunch of wonderful suggestions! Since this is a means of communication it seems practical to ask if anyone is looking for crew members. I may not know a whole lot about pirating outside books, but I promise I'm a quick learner and eager to improve!
